Empower Innovation uses a top menu for navigation. The top menu includes:
Community – Contains Organization and member Directories
Events – A public Events calendar
Partners – Contains an overview page for each of the major Partners of the platform
Funding Opportunities – Contains a single Directory for Funding Opportunities
Resources – Contains a single Directory, pre-filtered for Libraries, Tools, and Databases
At the top of any page you many also “Sign Up” or “Login” to the platform.
When you are logged in, a User Menu will appear when you select your name in the top right corner. Please visit the User Menu section of this guide for details.
A Footer Menu can be found at the bottom of every page. From here, you can reach pre-filtered Directories for each type of Resource.
Under Featured you will find links to:
Events – Workshops, conferences, competitions, and other networking opportunities from our Partners and the wider Empower Innovation network
Spotlights – Interviews, stories, and member highlights created and hosted on the site
News – Curated news feed from across the cleantech, environmental, and Community development landscape
If a Partner has decided to offer an application for their program through Empower Innovation, a link to their application will appear under Apply in the Footer Menu. Additional details can be found under the Applying to Accelerator section of this guide.
The interactive figure near the top of the homepage displays the major user groups who we believe will find valuable, time-saving Resources and Community on this site. Hover your cursor over each group to learn more about the specific value Empower Innovation may provide.
When you are ready, select “Find Your Path” for the group you most closely identify with or are interested in. This step will direct you to the part of the Community page where you can learn more.
The Opportunities section of the homepage highlights upcoming public and private Funding Opportunities curated for Empower Innovation’s users. Some opportunities may focus on Community development, while others are designed to help test and scale new innovations in the cleantech industry. Explore these and other Funding Opportunities by selecting “Read More” on an opportunity tile or by clicking here.

To Favorite Organizations, Resources, and Funding Opportunities, and to access special features (such as messaging) on the platform, you must sign up for an account. The “Sign Up” form may be accessed at the top of any page. If you already have an account, you may “Login” from the top of any page.After clicking “Sign Up” you will be directed to the Sign Up Form, which may be completed by either:
Selecting LinkedIn’s icon and giving permission for Empower Innovation to retrieve your basic profile information, or
Providing your first and last name, email address, and a new password
Upon selecting the “Sign Up” option you will be directed to the “Sign Up Form,” which may be completed by either:
Selecting LinkedIn’s icon and giving permission for Empower Innovation to retrieve your basic profile information, or
Providing your first and last name, email address, and a new password.
Check the “CONSENT” box if you want to allow Empower Innovation to send you notifications via email (including for new messages in your inbox). This may be changed at any time in “Manage Your Account” once your account is created.
Select “Sign Up” to create your account. You will receive an email notification verifying the creation of the account.
Your User Dashboard collects your activity and interactions across the platform. At the top of your Dashboard you will see a header with yellow links to edit your User Profile or Organization Profile.
Beneath the header of the Dashboard, you can explore and revisit Resources, Organizations, and Funding Opportunities you have Favorited.
To view your Recommendations, select the associated tab. Recommendations are Resources, Organizations, and Funding Opportunities that the platform has selected based on your interests, location, industry, and other information from your User Profile. Keep your User Profile updated for the most valuable recommendations.
The Empower Innovation Network provides user-to-user and multi-user messaging. Visit your Message Center by selecting “Messages” from the User Menu to see a history of exchanged messages, ongoing conversations, and to send new messages.
To begin a new conversation with a member, select the New Message. You can search for any public user in the “To:” line. You may also start a conversation with a user from their Profile or associated Organization Profile.
Ongoing conversations and new messages will appear in the left section of the Message Center and can be searched by User or content.
Your Favorites are stored in a special Directory that can be accessed from the User Menu. Here you can see every item you have Favorited on the site and sort by Name, Type, and Date Favorited. You can also remove item from your Favorites Directory by unselecting the yellow star.
To add new Favorites to your Directory, visit the Community, Funding Opportunities, and Resources Directories. Any item with a star icon can be Favorited.
After you create an account you will be directed to your User Profile Form. All details will be visible to all administrators on the platform and some details will be visible to all members who have logged in.
You can return to edit your profile from your User Menu (My Profile) or Dashboard.
Recommendations for your Dashboard are generated based on the interests indicated in your Profile Form. If you would like to see more recommendations or narrow the results, simply return to your profile and further edit your interests.
An Organization Profile is the best way to showcase your Organization’s skills, expertise, technologies, and accomplishments. We include a wide variety of Organization types for you to select from. If you need help deciding which Organization type best suits your needs, please click on Community from the Main Menu to visit our guide of different User/Organization types.
If you still do not feel that your Organization type is represented, please send us a message from the footer of any page.
Organization Profiles can be created from two locations.
From the Organization Directory:
Select Organizations from the top navigation menu
Hover over in the bottom right of the screen
Select to add a new Organization
Fill out the Organization Form
You may save the Organization as a draft for future editing
Select Save to publish the Organization to the public directory
Click on the on the right side of the header containing your name. A filler logo will appear until you upload a logo.
The Community Menu allows users to explore several sections of the Community.
Organization – opens the entire Organization Directory
Startups – opens a pre-filtered Directory with all Startup Organizations
Projects – opens a Directory of all Projects
Members – opens a Directory with all public User Profiles. Users may elect to keep their User Profile private with permission from the Administrators
Each Directory can be filtered and searched using keywords.
Organizations and Projects can be Favorited by selecting the star icon on the Directory page or the item’s profile. Favorited Organizations and Projects are listed on your User Dashboard and in your Favorite’s Directory for easy access.
From the Directory, a sample of each Organization’s profile can be seen and interacted with:
To Favorite an Organization, select the star icon
To expand the listing for more information on the Organization, select the circle with the small arrow
If you own an Organization Page, you may also add a new Project from its listing
If you are a member or employee of an existing Organization and would like to be associated on the platform, you can request to join an Organization on the Organization Profile.
Your request will be sent to the owner of the Organization Page. If you do not hear back from the owner or you have any concerns regarding the Organization, please contact an Administrator through the Contact Us form reachable through the footer
Explore Funding Opportunities by using the filters and keyword search in the Funding Opportunities Directory.
Funding Opportunities are displayed in a listing format similar to Organizations. Important information is presented for easy browsing, including Title, Organization providing the opportunity, Funding Type, Status, and Tags.
The Funding Opportunity Status will let you know if the funding opportunity is currently open for applications, but we recommend checking the independent website for the Funding Opportunities for updates on deadlines.
Funding Opportunities can be Favorited by selecting the star on the Directory listing or the Funding Opportunity’s profile. Favorited Funding Opportunities are listed on your User Dashboard for quick access.
If you would like to see more details about a Funding Opportunity, select the title of the item to visit its Funding Opportunity profile.
If you own or are associated with an Organization, you can also signal your interest in a Funding Opportunity and finding Partners from most Funding Opportunities’ profiles. To get started:
Find a Grant, RFP, or FOA for which you would like to find a Partner
Select “Find a Partner” from the Funding Opportunity’s profile
Enter your name
Search for your Organization
Indicate your interest level
Interested – Interested in discussing the opportunity, but not ready to share additional details publicly
Seeking a Partner – When you are ready to find a Partner, you will be asked to note what skills/solutions/experience you are offering for the Project, thus facilitating faster connections with potential Partners
Upon completion of the form, you and your Organization will be listed on the Funding Opportunity’s profile so potential Partners can find you. From the Interested Organization section, users can select an interested party and see additional information, including links to messaging and offerings to potential Partnerships.
Empower Innovation collects and promotes Resources for the cleantech Community. We divide Resources into three categories:

The Resource Directory can be explored using the filters and keyword search. You can also open prefiltered Directories for each Resource category by selecting Libraries, Tools, and Databases from the Main Menu.
Resources can be Favorited by selecting the star on the Directory page or the Resources’ individual pages. Favorited Resources are listed on your User Dashboard and in the Favorites Directory under the User Menu for quick access.
Our Events Calendar brings together events from across the California cleantech space, and sometimes further. Explore Events by using the filters and keyword search in the Resource Directory. Use the view options to the right of the screen to see events in Calendar or Grid format.
Events typically include a link to an outside website where you can find more details and register for the event.
Our Partners may choose to host the applications for their program on Empower Innovation. To see if a Partner Program may be applied to on the site, visit their Partner Page or the footer menu on any page.
To apply to an available application from the Partner Page, look for a large “Submit Your Application Now” button. If you do not see this button, the program either does not host their application on the site or their application period may be closed. Details on the Partner Page are kept up-to-date and include a link to the Partner’s independent site for applications not hosted on the platform.
Once you are ready to apply, select the “Submit Your Application Now” button. Please review the general information or application instructions at the top of the application. You may save a draft of your application and return to it before submitting it the Accelerator.
If an application requires or allows for additional documents to be included, you will find a section to upload documents at the end of the application.
When your application is complete, submit it from the bottom of the form. You will receive an email confirming your application’s submission. The program you applied to will contact you through the platform or other approved methods according to their application cycle and review process.
If a Partner Program does not have an application on Empower Innovation, they may still have an open application cycle. Please visit their independent website to learn more and check for application opportunities.
For applications hosted on Empower Innovation, each Accelerator’s application is different, so if you would like to apply to multiple accelerators, you must visit and complete each application.
The admin and technical team may be contacted through the Contact Form. This form can be found either by:
Selecting “Message the Team” from below Contact Us in the Footer Menu (see Figure X)

In the form, please select a topic for your inquiry or concern. If you do not see a topic that fits your topic, please select the closest topic and submit your note.
We will respond to you through the platform messaging system, unless you request an alternative communication method.
