Dr. Michael Wolcott, Regents Professor and Associate Vice President of Research at Washington State University will discuss progress in research, development, and deployment (RD&D) of renewable, environmentally friendly energy systems that span the supply chain in Washington’s emerging biofuels industry.
Dr. Wolcott will highlight the efforts of public-private partnerships like the FAA Center of Excellence for Alternative Jet Fuels and the Environment (ASCENT) and the USDA-funded Northwest Advanced Renewables Alliance (NARA) in conceiving and building the next generation of sustainable aviation fuels-including feedstock development, fuel conversion methods, bioproducts, biorefineries, distribution infrastructures, and necessary environmental safeguards.
Clean energy legislation passed by the Washington State legislature in 2019, investments made by the federal government in biofuels research, and the collaborative RD&D efforts of the state sponsored aviation biofuels workgroup, continue to demonstrate that aviation biofuels are a reality and provide an innovative pathway to reduce aviation greenhouse gas emissions and promote economic development and jobs in Washington. Dr. Wolcott will discuss how the investments of time, dollars, and talent by stakeholder-driven consortiums of private, public, and tribal sectors and research institutions are bearing fruit.
