Notice Of Intent (NOI) To Issue Hydrogen And Fuel Cell Technologies Office Funding Opportunity Announcement To Advance The National Clean Hydrogen Strategy
Descripción

The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) is gearing up to release a pivotal funding opportunity announcement (FOA) titled "Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office FOA to Advance the National Clean Hydrogen Strategy." Anticipated for issuance in January 2024 through the EERE eXCHANGE website, this FOA underscores the significance of clean hydrogen and fuel cell technologies in shaping a sustainable, resilient, and equitable energy landscape.

Designed to align with the U.S. National Clean Hydrogen Strategy and Roadmap, the FOA is a critical component in realizing the vision of affordable clean hydrogen for a net-zero carbon future. It aims to bolster Research, Development, Demonstration & Deployment (RDD&D) initiatives pivotal to accelerating the adoption of clean hydrogen, particularly in challenging sectors like heavy-duty transportation and industrial applications. In tandem, the FOA aligns with the U.S. National Blueprint for Transportation Decarbonization, emphasizing the buildout of fueling corridors.

This FOA plays a crucial role in supporting DOE’s $8 billion Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs (H2Hubs) Program, fostering hydrogen producer-consumer networks and local infrastructure to hasten hydrogen's integration as a clean energy carrier. The focus on heavy-duty vehicles and transportation applications is a strategic move to achieve economies of scale and cost reductions.

Moreover, the FOA dovetails with the H2@Scale Initiative, targeting advancements in affordable hydrogen production, transport, storage, and utilization. The objectives of the FOA are in harmony with DOE’s Hydrogen Shot goal, aiming for affordable clean hydrogen production at $1/kg within the next decade.

Beyond RD&D, the FOA has a holistic approach, addressing safety and permitting, equitable community engagement, and strategies for effective community benefits. It recognizes the transformative potential of hydrogen and fuel cells in historically underserved communities, fostering improvements in air quality, resiliency, and job creation, particularly emphasizing good-paying union jobs.

Applicants interested in official notifications and information about this FOA should register on EERE eXCHANGE, where applications will exclusively be accepted upon release. EERE's intent to issue this FOA signifies a significant stride towards achieving clean hydrogen goals and catalyzing advancements in the broader energy landscape. Stay tuned for the official release on EERE eXCHANGE, and let's collectively drive the future of clean energy.
