The Department of Defense (DoD) is pleased to announce the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) Defense Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (DEPSCoR) – Research Collaboration (RC) opportunity. This program, managed by the Basic Research Office under the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD [R&E]), is awarded by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) and administered through the Office of Naval Research (ONR). The DoD aims to allocate FY24 DEPSCoR funds through this announcement.
The primary goals of DEPSCoR are to:
- Increase the number of university researchers in eligible states and territories who can conduct science and engineering (S&E) research that meets the DoD’s needs.
- Enhance the ability of higher education institutions (IHE) in eligible states and territories to develop, plan, and execute S&E research relevant to the DoD’s mission, making them competitive in the federal peer-review process.
- Boost the likelihood of long-term growth in federal financial assistance for S&E research awarded to IHE in eligible states.
In alignment with these objectives, the DoD plans to make multiyear awards for S&E research that supports its mission and national security. The Basic Research Office anticipates providing up to $15 million in total funding for this program, with up to 25 grants available. Each grant can be up to $600,000 in total cost, funded at a rate of up to $200,000 per year over three years.
Awards are contingent upon funding availability and are not guaranteed.
