Viatec was founded in 2015 with the intent to create and drive sustainable, environment-friendly power solutions for the work vehicles industry, focusing on outdoor aerial lift vehicles. Viatec has pioneered, patented and commercialized industry solutions in the electro-hydraulic hybrid category that have the potential to become recognized as the industry standard.
Our flagship- product “SmartPTO” is a standalone plug-in electric power takeoff unit that eliminates the need for idling by aerial device trucks (also called bucket trucks) that fits into the required customization supply chain already in place for this vehicle category.
As several environmental studies have shown, the transportation industry is one of the biggest contributors to environmental pollution and to the increase of greenhouse gases in the world. For a long time, the industry has worked to provide efficiency solutions for tackling these issues. For the most part, however, all such efficiency solutions tend to focus on improving the ‘miles driven’ component of transportation. There is an equally large part of the industry that goes comparatively unnoticed – which is the operations that are enabled by vehicles that are by definition, work vehicles. Examples being bucket trucks – used by utilities, telecommunication or forestry companies. Or digger derricks used by the mining industry and so forth. Worksite operations also use the same fossil fuels and cause the same environmental impacts as their driven counterparts. Viatec has chosen to focus on this aspect of the industry and has a goal to engineer elegant and efficient solutions to help work functions be electrified. To that end, we have developed SmartPTO – which is a standalone plug-in rechargeable electric power take off unit for utility bucket trucks that allows them to operate their boom and bucket as well as other devices and applications on the truck without having to idle their diesel or gasoline powered engine – thereby saving several thousands of gallons of fuel per year, per truck and eliminating several metric tons of carbon dioxide and other harmful emissions that would otherwise be emitted from the truck’s operations. Our solution is engineered from industry standard, tested and robust components and it does not require fleets to invest in any additional infrastructure to implement.
