The transition to 100% carbon-free energy is not practical with currently available technologies. Fossil fuels account for 85% market share and the demand for energy is projected to grow another 50% through mid-century. Variable renewable technologies are an important part of decarbonization, but are not sufficient due to their intermittency. A new source of carbon-free energy is needed. There is a need for affordable, reliable, carbon-free energy sources to displace fossil fuel power generation. CTFusion's Dynomak fusion power cores (FPCs) will provide affordable, reliable, high power density, carbon-free power generation with no risk of a meltdown and no long-lived radioactive waste like in fission power plants. These features will translate into minimal land requirements with power plants located near population centers, reducing new transmission and distribution infrastructural needs.
