The mission of the Neighborhood Council Sustainability Alliance (NCSA) is to advance sustainability and resilience across Los Angeles through advocacy, sharing of best practices, and community action.
The City of LA is divided into 99 neighborhood councils so that communities have better access to government, and the Neighborhood Council Sustainability Alliance brings 62 of those neighborhood councils and people from across the city together to create a network of community activists. We work at the individual level, the community level, and also at the city level. We build on the good work that communities are doing, and we partner with other nonprofits to bring the voice of the people to the City, and speak with a united voice, pushing and pulling our communities and our City government to do more, more quickly.
We have committees and working groups that are making progress on all these issues. For example, we just reached more than 20,000 people through an EV outreach effort, letting them know about incentives and ways to charge. We have a green business ambassador program, we’re working with the DWP to transition to renewable electricity, we help people preserve trees, we’re promoting car-sharing, we developed a toolkit with the City to help neighborhood councils implement LA’s Green New Deal, and we’re working with the City to make sure that frontline communities have a voice in the decisions we make about how to transition our economy and our lifestyles.
