SubSeaSail® (SSS) is an innovative, San Diego, CA-based BlueTech company founded in 2017. SSS is developing two lines of autonomous, disruptively affordable, 100% energy harvesting, long-duration vehicles – one a semi-submersible OBSERVATION vessel and the other a small load, multi-hull CARGO vessel. They use wind for primary power and solar to re-charge batteries for sensors and thrusters. Both have low acoustic, IR, radar and visual signatures and – properly outfitted – both will have an ability to submerge to avoid bad actors/weather and to listen/monitor. We are also developing unique low SWaP (Size, Weight and Power) sensors.
SSS has developed an important IP portfolio with 5 issued U.S. patents and 5 more U.S. patents pending plus several patents pending in Australian and Europe. To date (Sept. 2022), we have received three SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) grants from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). The DOE grants are to develop an affordable, easy-to-deploy environmental monitoring vessel for use in and around offshore energy installations above and below water. SSS is recognized as one of the top 100 ocean tech companies by Marine Technology Reporter (a leading industry trade magazine).
