Camus Energy was founded in 2019 in the San Francisco Bay area. We have deep experience designing and operating distributed systems, and a passion for combating climate change. From pioneering work at Google, SpaceX, and Uber, we bring expertise in massively parallel cloud computing, high-scale real-time analytics, and high-reliability computing. We believe that we can combine our desire to impact the world with our technical expertise to bring about positive change. And we are going to have fun doing so.
We are building a grid management platform for the renewable, distributed grid. By providing insight into the usage and behavior of the grid in real time, we can provide the intelligence required to balance locally among distributed energy resources, to support system stability and minimize costs as grids transition to zero carbon. We provide new markets to incentivize co-operation by devices with different owners.
Our platform consists of three components:
Real-time analytics aggregates currently available data - system usage, network conditions, distributed resource provider information, and forecasts to provide an overall view of how the grid is operating.
Based on that insight, our optimization engine computes the best operating plan for multitudes of energy producers and consumers, respecting grid constraints and device objectives.
Our market platform will provide distribution-level energy balancing markets, factoring optimization recommendations into constraint-based pricing resolution to manage the local energy ecosystem in real time.
By supporting localized balancing, we enable grid operators to support high levels of distributed resources while comfortably operating the grid well above its existing capacity constraints.
Camus operates our platform as a service, targeted at grid operators, balancing entities and community aggregators responsible for managing energy usage within distribution level environments. We provide hosted analytics, decision support, and orchestration as part of our Balancing as a Service model, minimizing IT complexity while providing exceptional transparency, control, and performance.
Our team of software and systems experts are industry leaders in high availability system design and operation, with past expertise in building massively parallel real-time orchestration systems for industry leaders such as Google and Uber, and systems integration for the US government (Healthcare.gov tech surge) and large enterprise clients including NetApp and GE.
With world-leading expertise in building secure, scalable and reliable software systems, our team is uniquely qualified to meet the complex challenge of helping grid operators understand and manage the changing energy landscape.
