About the Prize
The $7.49 million Community Energy Innovation Prize is the successor of two U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) prizes related to community-based clean energy innovation: the Community Clean Energy Coalition Prize and the Inclusive Energy Innovation Prize. The goals of this new combined prize are to support community-based organizations, the private sector, nonfederal government entities, and collegiate teams in developing and carrying out activities related to clean energy that enable business and technology incubation and acceleration as well as other community-based capacity building, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Prize Structure
The Community Energy Innovation Prize is made up of three tracks: the Clean Energy Ecosystem Track, the Manufacturing Ecosystem Track, and the Collegiate Track, each of which has distinct goals and submission requirements over three phases: CONCEPT, PROGRESS, and IMPACT. In addition to prize awards, winning teams in all three tracks will receive in-kind mentorship and other support services.
Prizes for the CONCEPT Phase
Clean Energy Ecosystem Track
$4.86 million cash prize pool
Up to 16 cash prizes of $100,000 each and in- kind mentorship services
Manufacturing Ecosystem Track
$2.18 million cash prize pool
Up to 8 cash prizes of $100,000 each and in- kind mentorship services
Collegiate Track
$450,000 cash prize pool
Up to 10 cash prizes of $15,000 each to the academic institution and in-kind mentorship services
Submission Deadline
The submission deadline for the CONCEPT Phase of the Collegiate Track is November 3, 2023. The submission deadlibe for the CONCEPT Phase for the Clean Energy Ecosystem Track and the Manufacturing Ecosystem Track is February 2, 2024.
You must compete in the CONCEPT phase to be eligible for additional funding in the PROGRESS and IMPACT phases.
