Description

DOE's OCED is offering a $50 million funding opportunity for projects demonstrating reliable and financially valuable operations in various grid setups with diverse energy resources and ownership models for distributed energy systems (DES). The focus is on showcasing that aggregated and coordinated DERs can provide reliable grid services, with the goal of extending these approaches to other parts of the distribution grid. The funding supports transformative projects integrating renewable and distributed energy systems into broader networks, contributing to the development of more reliable, resilient, and cost-effective distribution grids. The Biden Administration's decarbonization goals are also a key driver for this initiative. Up to four projects will be funded, each receiving between $10 million and $25 million in federal funds, with a required minimum of 50% non-federal cost share. The projects are expected to have a maximum performance period of 8 years.
