Organization Overview

Climformatics is a women-owned company founded by Dr. Detelina Ivanova (Chief Technology Officer, CTO) and Dr. Subarna Bhattacharyya (CEO), former Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) climate modelers, with expertise in oceanography, atmospheric science, computation and risk modeling who work at the frontiers of climate/weather modeling, data science and AI. Our mission is to Predict, Prepare and Protect businesses from catastrophe climate change risks. Climate disasters have become part of our everyday life. It is destabilizing businesses and is a significant pain point particularly for the precision agricultural industry and many other verticals like insurance, energy and water utilities, renewable energy, supply-chain logistics etc. For instance, in California the 5-year average cost of climate driven catastrophe losses has increased from $1Billion to $12 Billions in the last decade.

At Climformatics we are building a tool to predict future climate at any custom location for any future timescale (daily, seasonal to years ahead). Our forecasts are as accurate as the daily forecast but one year ahead. Our current beach-head market is precision agriculture, in particular the wine industry in California. We have validated our technology across a large number of locations in growing regions of California. We also validated our capabilities to predict fire weather. Our solution will provide prediction of fire-weather variables like the maximum temperature, high winds, soil moisture, evapotranspiration, and rainfall well ahead of the fire season, which will help in mitigating wildfire risk by providing lead mitigation time and procuring mitigation resources.

Climformatics prediction technology provides a portable, scalable tool which can be incorporated into any business risk assessment tool, that will disrupt the trajectory of climate driven catastrophe risk assessment and allow for improved disaster preparedness. Our massive transformation purpose is to help farmers, businesses, governments, stakeholders and humanity at large in preparing for the inescapable impact of climate change.

Climformatics won the 2014 CleanTech Open (CTO) Western US region finalist business model competition award in the Ag & Waste Water sector. Since then, Climformatics showcased its capabilities at many events across industry, like IBM’s global entrepreneurship partner program, IBM referenced Climformatics as a Client Success Story at IBM’s Global Insight, Wow events, LLNL Entrepreneurs in Readiness Program, California’s Department of Insurance climate risk summit at UCLA Law School, 2021  Global Accelicity Leading Cities Semifinalist. Climformatics is now a member of the UN Disaster Risk Resilience US Chapter, ARISE -US 2021 and is also an alumni of the Valley Ventures Cohort 6 starting September 2021, run by Fresno State Water Energy Technology (WET) Center. Recently Climformatics won the Department of Energy's America Made Solar 'Ready' award.
