Adventures to Dreams Enrichment (AtDE) is a year-round program that provides free hands-on gardening and STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art and Math) for youth ages 5-16.
Organization Overview

Adventures to Dreams Enrichment’s mission is to empower youth (ages 5-16) by teaching them to grow their own food, engaging them in enrichment activities, providing mentorship, and creating a safe environment to learn and play. We offer open avenues to art and science, for youth to express their creativity and engage in open-ended thinking skills. Our motto, “Busy hands = Busy minds,” can be seen in every part of our program to help kids create and develop a positive mindset.

Please describe in your own words your community's needs:
We are located in the 90813 zip code, which has a high percentage of low-income households (63%), high crime rates, and the lowest rate of high school graduation in Long Beach. Disadvantaged communities have less access to green space, parks, and trees. Furthermore, when poor communities of color do have access to green space, these spaces are not maintained as well as spaces in affluent areas. We prioritize child and family safety, as many 90813 parks (including the park where our garden is located) are challenged by large homeless encampments, public drug use, vandalism, and the destruction of public bathrooms. Such dangers keep families from coming out on the weekends to enjoy their local parks. Instead of visiting local parks, families either stay at home, or are forced to drive to parks in affluent neighborhoods. This is why our work is crucial for providing positive enrichment, engaging activities, and a safe space for youth.
