Organization Overview
Cache Energy is a heat electrification and long-duration energy storage company headquartered in Champaign, Illinois, whose solution helps customers meet their heat electrification and decarbonization goals while capturing energy price arbitrage across days, months, or seasons by offsetting the cost of their current fossil heating source. Cache uses a proprietary reactor to store electricity and discharge heat at a steady temperature up to 1,000°F / 540°C using a chemical process involving lime, a cost-effective, abundant, safe, non-toxic, and non-flammable material. The charged material can be stored indefinitely, un-insulated and at ambient temperature without losses, enabling energy storage for hours, days, months, seasons, or even years across thousands of cycles. The reactor is on a skid that fits in a shipping container, and it can be unfolded and integrated into a customer system within just a few days. Cache has achieved TRL of 7-8, has raised multiple millions of dollars in funding, has won 2 US Department of Energy awards, and has 2 years of runtime experience in Illinois, Colorado, and Alaska. Unit sizes currently available are 100 kW or 1 MW, with 10 MW available in Q2 2026 and 100 MW in Q2 2027. Cache is unique in being able to offer leasing as short as 1 month for companies wishing to try its reactor as a drop-in solution for all or part of their heating load. Ideal use cases are any industrial process heat ≤1,000°F / 540°C, whether as hot air, hot water, or steam; district or building heating; utilities electrifying heating loads; or back-up resiliency for any heating load.
