Sabreez presents CAISO data in an actionable format to encourage household load shifting. Our Clean Energy Factor is presented as a real time API that can be integrated with connected devices and can be used by utilities to present a week-ahead forecast to consumers that highlights the best and worst hours to use electric power.

Organization Overview

Sabreez was originally founded during the 2014 U.S. Department of Energy's "American Energy Challenge" as a Green Button App that showed consumers how much wind power they used relative to power from thermal resources. The "Wind Number" App was one of the first applications to combine smart meter data with electric power generation data to provide consumer insights. The Wind Number is a patented method of reducing energy costs by converting an array of energy generation data propagated by the California Independent System Operator into a consumable-friendly format. When combined with the more recently introduced "Solar Boost," the Clean Energy Factor describes California's energy system as a daily (or weekly) optimal consumption model. This has many use cases, including the ability to reduce curtailment of solar and wind. Perhaps more importantly, the Clean Energy Factor enables utilities and connected device managers to show customers that they are meeting their clean energy needs every week.

Sabreez has been engaging energy consumers for several years, and found that the majority of people prefer clean energy over power from fossil fuels. California has long been planning the roll-out of time of use rates, but not enough consumer education has been done to explain why people are going to see their energy bills change. Providing a weekly clean energy forecast through email and other notifications can provide a positive message contrasting the worst hours to use energy with the opportunity to use cleaner energy, and reduce household costs on the new time of use rate. This should create a more sustainable behavior change.

Our API can be licensed by Utilities, Community Choice Aggregation entities, Connected Device managers, and others that wish to inform consumers when California's electric power supply is cleaner.
