The Nation’s Largest Clean Energy Testbed Ecosystem
Organization Overview

The CalTestBed Initiative accelerates California-based clean energy startups toward commercialization by providing them access to world-class facilities for third-party testing. It’s supported by Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC) funds from the California Energy Commission, led by New Energy Nexus and implemented in partnership with the University of California Office of the President and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

The goal of CalTestBed is to grow California’s clean energy ecosystem and provide positive impacts to the ratepayers. To do this, it provides vouchers to selected clean energy companies for up to $300,000 worth of critical testing at one of more than 70 facilities at nine University of California Campuses and Berkeley Lab. Check out our 2020 impact report, CalTestBed at a Glance, to learn more.

Congratulations to the cutting-edge innovators approved for the first two cohorts! Their technologies aim to improve the safety, reliability and resilience of the California electric system while creating jobs, reducing pollution, and improving public health. Learn about the 40 companies in the CalTestBed Entrepreneur Directory.

To bring the community together, feature the awardees, highlight our world-class testing facilities, and connect the innovators to next-level partners, we host an annual symposium with our partner Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI). Check out 2020 and 2021’s symposium on CalTestBed's YouTube channel to learn more.

Finally, none of this would be possible without the support of our stellar partners and ecosystem. Thank you to the California Energy Commission, University of California Office of the President, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, LACI, and Momentum (BuildMomentum.io). Connect with the community on New Energy Nexus Network Slack and the Empower Innovation Platform!
