Organization Overview

UC Davis has a reputation for solving problems related to food, health, the environment and society. These are just a few of our cutting-edge programs:

The UC Davis Air Quality Research Center provides support for teams of collaborative researchers to conduct scientific, engineering, health, social and economic research that educates and informs planning and regulations for air quality and climate change.

The Energy and Efficiency Institute (EEI) at UC Davis is a leading university institution advancing impactful energy and energy efficiency solutions. They focus on addressing critical energy challenges and improving energy use through research, education, and engagement. The EEI is home to innovative research centers and programs in buildings, transportation, water, and agriculture & food production.

The Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Davis is the leading university center in the world on sustainable transportation, hosting the National Center on Sustainable Transportation since 2013 (awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation) and managing large research initiatives on energy, environmental, and social issues. They have a strong commitment not just to research, but to interdisciplinary education and engagement with government, industry, and non-governmental organizations.

The California Lighting Technology Center is a research, development and demonstration facility dedicated to accelerating the development and commercialization of next-generation, energy-efficient lighting and daylighting technologies. The center includes full-scale laboratories for research and development, as well as prototype and product testing.

NEAT (Nanomaterials in the Environment, Agriculture and Technology) is a multidisciplinary research and education program which links the fundamental physics, chemistry, geoscience, environmental science and engineering of nanomaterials and new materials to emerging areas of investigation.

The California Wind Energy Collaborative is committed to supporting the development of safe, reliable, cost effective, and environmentally responsible wind power in California.

The Western Cooling Efficiency Center (WCEC) accelerates the development and commercialization of efficient heating, cooling, and energy distribution solutions. Their work is increasingly important as energy policies in the U.S. and California recognize the far-reaching implications of greenhouse gas emissions on our environment and changing climate.

The Center for Water-Energy Efficiency (CWEE) identifies, develops, and tests innovative technologies and practices for aggressive improvements in water-energy efficiency; designs policies and outreach activities that facilitate market access and penetration of innovative water-energy conservation strategies and technologies; and serves as a collaborative hub for universities, industrial partners, and government agencies to advance water-energy research, education, technology development, and policy assessment.
